Croix Canon is the magisterial second wine of one of Saint-Émilion's finest estates, Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Canon. Crafted from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc in its own purpose-built winery, this wine is made by the same team and with the same techniques as the Grand Vin.
93/100 - One of the second wines that knock it out of the park in the vintage, the 2017 Croix Canon offers more medium-bodied aromas and flavors as well as incredible finesse. Cassis, black cherries, lavender, and Provençal herbs, loads of floral characteristics, bright acidity, and fine tannin all emerge from this beautiful Saint-Emilion. The nose opens with ripe dark fruit flavours, intermixed with notes of leather and intriguing spice.
On the palate, velvety tannins give way to a lovely, silky, finish.
This classic blend is a little lighter than previous vintages, bright and zippy wit a certain austerity. It is generously flavoured and effortlessly approachable. It will age very well, easily in to the late 2020s and likely longer.
Pair with shoulder of lamb, or any variety of tomato-based pasta dish.
