Cathy Corison is undoubtedly one of the most influential winemakers in Napa Valley history, having championed a hands-off approach to winemaking for decades. A master at letting her wines do all the talking, her focus on restraint has long made her Cabernets distinct in a region oft dominated by intense fruit flavours and extensive use of American oak. Holding a well-deserved reputation for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the world, Cathy's wines reveal why Napa has become one of the world's pre-eminent wine regions.
96/100 - Medium to full-bodied, beautiful and restrained, with savoury aromatics of fennel, black liquorice, cedar, and black currants. Soft, satiny blackberry fruits are lifted by fine-grained yet supple tannins while a purity of fruit guides the palate to a long, tobacco-tinged finish marked by a mineral-freshness that beckons sip after sip. - Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter
18++/20 - Dark garnet. Smells of black cherry and cassis. Gorgeous cherry, dried flowers, and herb flavors have an ethereal quality as bright acidity makes for a mouth-watering package. The tannins are wispy ghosts that hang in the corners of the mouth. Utterly refined. the idea of a wine this gorgeous being made in a year when a large percentage of producers in Napa made no wine at all thanks to the fires positively boggles the mind. - Alder Yarrow, Jancis Robinson
95/100 - Classic balance and a little restraint characterize this firmly structured, deeply flavored wine that brings black cherries, cranberries, and black pepper to the front, backed by slightly tangy acidity and texturizing tannins that will help it mature nicely. - Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast
Bright black cherry and cassis on the nose; subtle notes of cedar and herbs; the palate brings forward juicy blackberry and dark plum flavours; ending with a hint of spice, cocoa, and tobacco.
IN THE VINEYARD
Sourced from the heart of Napa's Saint Helena AVA
Since 1987, Corison has sourced their Napa Valley Cabernet from three prime benchland vineyards between Rutherford and St. Helena, celebrating their 36th harvest in 2022
These vineyards all share the distinct Bale gravelly loam soils, known for striking the right balance between moisture retention and drainage
Thanks to careful vineyard management, the resulting wines are marked by their refreshing natural acidity and gentle tannin grip, ensuring both great table presence and impressive longevity
in the winery
Over the past forty years Cathy has never wavered from producing the style of Cabernet that she loves. It is this commitment to elegance and balance, achieved through conscientious viticulture and restrained winemaking, that has inspired a new generation of winemakers across the state to reject the souped-up and turbo-charged wines that have dominated in recent years.
