This cool-climate Pinot Noir from Ernest Vineyards is practically bursting with notes of ripe red fruits; think bing cherries and summer strawberries followed by a hint of red roses. On the palate, it delivers even more complexity with the fruit profile being wrapped in layers of silky tannins and marked acidity.
95/100 - The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate is a blend from the Cleary and Michael Vallentine ranches, both in Freestone. Bright and effusive, with striking depth, the 2021 is deep and beautifully layered right out of the gate. A rush of dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, mint and blood orange build into the rich, heady finish. The 33% stems are not especially evident. This is the best wine I have tasted from Ernest so far. It would be great to see more wines here in this direction. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
94/100 - Black fruit here, with black cherry and dark strawberry. Crushed stone and metal shavings, too. It’s full and solid with firm, racy tannins and a long finish. Linear and svelte. A little tight. Drinkable now, but better after 2025. - James Suckling
