Regarded among the pioneers of the Grower Champagne movement, Francis Egly remains today one of its most authoritative voices. Joined by his daughter Clémence, they craft Champagnes of astonishing richness, power and remarkable capacity to age, predominantly from old-vine Pinot Noir grapes across the Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay, Verzenay and Bouzy.
Les Prémices is a blend of equal parts of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir from their vineyards in Trigny, within the Massif de Saint-Thierry.
Bottled in 2022, the cuvée is a blend of 50% 2021 harvest, 30% 2020 harvest, 20% 2019 harvest. Disgorged in 2025. Dosage 2 g/l.
92/100 - “The NV Champagne Cuvée Les Prémices Extra Brut pours a straw color and offers notes of ripe peach, orchard fruit, fresh nuts, and a powdery texture. Medium-bodied, it has a fine mousse with a zesty crispness on the finish. Salty and bright on the finish, I like the structure of this vintage, which has a more chiseled feel. This is Egly-Ouriet’s entry-level wine, but it has structure.
